Uzbekistan to help ease shortage of truckers in Europe

The Agency for External Labor Migration of Uzbekistan has signed an agreement with Kreiss, a Latvian transport and logistics company, on arranging the recruitment of truckers to Latvia. During their visit to Uzbekistan, Kreiss representatives met with senior officials of the Ministry of Transport and the Association of International Road Carriers.

The agreement on arranging recruitment to Latvia envisages transfer of 600 drivers from Uzbekistan. The drivers will be trained at Vatanparvar driving schools. Upon completion of their training, the truckers will be able to obtain European certificates and work in EU countries.

The World Road Transport Organization estimates that the shortage of truck drivers in Europe has led to a loss of productivity for nearly 50% of companies and a drop in revenue for 39% in 2023. The shortage of drivers is expected to increase from 233,000 to 745,000 by 2028 unless action is taken.
