Truck mileage on German toll roads recovered at end of quarter

After a decline in February, Germany’s toll roads recorded an increase in truck mileage in March, according to the Federal Logistics and Mobility Office (Bundesamt für Logistik und Mobilität, BALM). In the third month of 2025, trucks over 3.5 tonnes travelled 6.4% more kilometres on German roads than in the same period a year earlier. Growth was recorded for German trucks (up 7.6 %), Polish trucks (up 4.7 %), and Lithuanian trucks (up 6 %).

If only vehicles with a GVW greater than 7.5 tonnes are included, traffic in March 2025 was 3.1% higher than in March 2024.

The highest mileage in March (year-on-year) was recorded for:

·        German trucks – up 3%, mileage of around 1.93 billion kilometres;

·        Polish trucks – up 2.4%, mileage of 0.655 billion kilometres;

·        Lithuanian trucks – up 5.2%, mileage of 0.129 billion kilometres.

For the whole of the first quarter of 2025, the volume of transportation by trucks over 7.5 tonnes on German roads was slightly down, by 0.5%, on the same period of the previous year.
