A recent IRU member survey revealed that operators are facing challenges in implementing decarbonisation programmes as their customers are not willing to bear the additional costs, especially in Australia and Europe. Many operators also report that they lack funding and incentives from governments to acquire the appropriate emission reduction technologies.
At the same time, transport operators in Europe are concerned about decarbonisation in the face of increasing regulatory pressure from EU legislation imposing higher costs to acquire new technologies, and resistance from customers unwilling to bear these costs, says Research Manager Romain Mouton.
