Renewables account for half of EU electricity

Renewables provided nearly half of EU electricity in 2024.

According to Ember, a global energy think tank, the share of fossil fuels in EU energy generation has declined over the past five years from 39% to 29%, while the share of renewables has advanced from 34% to 47%.

Solar power generation grew particularly strongly last year, up 22% compared to 2023, to 304 TWh.

In Germany, 54% of total electricity generation in 2024 came from renewables.
