Lithuania to check the amount of fuel carried by trucks from Belarus and Russia

From 12 March onwards, Lithuanian customs officers will check the fuel level in the tanks of trucks coming from Belarus and Russia, the official website of the Lithuanian Customs reports.

The report says that truck drivers will have to indicate the amount of fuel carried in the tank by filing an electronic declaration. After that it will be measured.

It is noted that fuel imports to the European Union from Belarus and Russia are limited. In areas where it is suspected that fuel is being illegally siphoned, Lithuania will intensify vehicle inspections. Illegal siphoning of fuel from a truck is an administrative offence and can result in the vehicle being confiscated.
