Alphaliner reports the global container fleet capacity exceeded 32 million TEU. It has expanded by 8.9% since May 2024 and by nearly 20% over 24 months since May 2023. Over the five years since the pandemic began, it has increased by 36%.
In absolute terms, most of the growth came on routes linking Asia with European ports, a fallout of the crisis in the Red Sea, which forced carriers to divert ships around Africa.
The most dynamic market segments over the past two years have been Latin America and India/the Middle East, both growing much faster than the market average.
