Germany to drastically cut spending on transport infrastructure

The German Federal Government plans to take austerity measures in the 2025 federal budget and has announced significant cuts in infrastructure and climate spending. Transport and Logistics Associations are concerned about reducing costs for maintaining and expanding highways and bridges.

Next year, funds for Autobahn GmbH, responsible for maintaining, expanding and building new highways, are to be cut by 20% compared to previous plans.

“Reduced investment in transport infrastructure causes indirect economic damage,” warns a cross-industry alliance of 21 logistics associations in a joint press release and calls on the government to prioritise the transport sector when planning its budget.
