The International Road Transport Union (IRU), citing Global Petrol Prices (GPP) experts, has shared insights into the way fuel prices will behave in 2025.
The development of fuel prices, especially diesel prices, is a key issue for the transport and logistics industry. Crude oil prices and government regulations play a decisive role.
While oil price fluctuations are similar around the world, diesel prices tend to vary from country to country. For example, a 10% change of oil prices would cause a 7% change in diesel prices in the U.S., while in Germany, it would lead to a 3% change.
According to the latest projections, oil prices are expected to continue their gradual decline, averaging USD 73 per barrel in 2025, down from USD 79 in 2024. However, the projection comes with important caveats about geopolitical tensions – oil prices could potentially near USD 100 per barrel.
Projected diesel prices in three major economic regions:
- China: Between CNY 6.41 and CNY 8.24 per litre (currently CNY 7.10)
- Germany: Between EUR 1.37 and EUR 1.83 per litre (currently EUR 1.66)
- U.S.: Between USD 0.68 and USD 1.20 per litre (currently USD 0.94)
As we can see, the behaviour of diesel prices in 2025 is still uncertain. Transport companies should therefore be flexible and incorporate different pricing scenarios into their strategic planning.
