During the first three months in 2016, road freight traffic from the Republic of Belarus to the countries of the European Union increased almost by 30% against the same period in the previous year, totaling 758 thousand tons.
The major goods exported from Belarus to the EU included wood and woodwork. In January-March 2016, the volume of these goods transported by road reached 423 thousand tons, which accounted for 55% of all the goods exported by road. The growth rates made 38.9% against the same period in the previous year.
In the first three months of the current year, transportation of iron, steel and articles from these metals from Belarus to the EU grew approximately by 25%, up to 114 thousand tons. Belarus exported around 30 thousand tons of glass and glassware to the west. The growth rates for this product group totaled over 85% against the same period in the previous year.
In physical terms, goods exported by road in January-March of the current year increased most of all in the direction from Belarus to Poland (+53%, up to 223 thousand tons). The highest growth rates were observed to the Netherlands with the increase almost by 2.3 times (up to 52 thousand tons). Among the five countries with the highest volume of export (expressed in physical terms) from Belarus to the EU were also Germany, Lithuania and Latvia.
