According to the latest S&P Global Mobility report, Western markets are expected to see one of the steepest declines in truck registrations in 2025.
Analysts expect registrations in Western Europe to fall by 4.2% to around 290,000 vehicles. The main driving forces behind it are stronger regulatory requirements, weak economic growth, declining orders, and mounting political uncertainty in key countries such as Germany and France.
S&P points to low real GDP growth in the region and warns of additional investment barriers due to US tariffs. Geopolitical tensions and unresolved crises on the EU’s external borders are also putting pressure on the market environment.
Another factor is the tightening of EU regulations: new CO₂ emission requirements and safety standards are putting pressure on manufacturers. In addition, another major change is imminent with the introduction of the Euro 7 emissions standard from 2028 (for new models) and 2029 (for all newly registered vehicles).
