EU new truck registrations down 16%

According to the figures by ACEA, total new truck registrations in the European Union fell by 16% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 72,941 units. This decline was driven by decreases across both medium and heavy truck segments. Medium truck registrations dropped by 12.5%, while heavy truck registrations declined by 16.6% compared to Q1 2024.

Diesel trucks remained the dominant fuel type, accounting for 93.4% of new EU registrations in Q1 2025, despite a 17.7% year-on-year drop in volumes. Electrically chargeable trucks made up 3.5% of the market. Hybrid-electric trucks accounted for 2.6% of the market, while trucks powered by other fuels such as natural gas or LPG held a share of less than 1%.
