EU finances enhanced security of lorry parking areas

The European Commission has allocated EUR 320 million to develop secure lorry parking areas across the EU to improve driver safety and working conditions.

Currently, drivers in the EU face a marked shortage of secure parking options, often relying on poorly equipped or unsafe areas to rest. This gap in infrastructure has affected driver safety and cargo security.

As a reminder, in July 2024, TAPA recorded the highest level of reported supply chain thefts in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) this year. Nearly 90% of all incidents occurred in the following countries: the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain. Despite falling fuel prices in many countries, diesel fuel remains a target for thieves in the EMEA region – in July, the number of fuel thefts grew 42.6%. Of 97 thefts, 60 occurred in Germany.
