According to Alphaliner, the total capacity of vessels operating in the North European market was 43,000 TEU or 17% higher in July 2025 than a year earlier. This increase was driven by a rise in both the number of vessels on the routes (+5%) and their average capacity (+22%).
Maersk accounted for 70% of the growth. Over the past 12 months, Maersk has added six new services between ports in Northern Europe, which are served by eight vessels carrying between 2,400 and 5,900 TEU.
