In the first seven months of the year, rail freight traffic on the New Silk Road dropped 25.4% year on year, reaching 170,700 TEU.
According to the Eurasian Rail Alliance index, the bulk of freight from China goes to Poland, with this year’s freight volume at 138,800 TEU – 17% less than a year earlier.
China–Germany traffic fell by 68% to 6,100 TEU, while China–Belgium traffic plunged by 79% to 1,500 TEU.
Germany ranks first in terms of export traffic, with a 29% drop in volume to 16,400 TEU. Poland ranks second, with volumes down 3% to 6,000 TEU.
Negative factors include China’s restrictive market access policies, increased tariffs, and the risk of the Poland–Belarus border being closed for political reasons.
