According to a survey run by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global civil aviation freight traffic grew by 11.1% to 21.7 billion tkm between April 2023 and April 2024. Despite double-digit year-on-year growth in demand for air freight for the fifth month in a row, performance in April 2024 was 6.5% lower than in March 2024.
Supply in the air freight market has been growing for two consecutive months but the pace of growth slowed in April. While growth was 7.3% year-on-year in March, it was 7.1% in April, with supply reaching 49.4 billion tkm. On international routes, available capacity increased by 10.2% year-on-year.
Willie Walsh, IATA Director General, predicts continued strong growth in air freight traffic.
