Moody’s lowers global GDP growth forecast for 2022-23

Moody’s estimates that global GDP will grow by 2.5% in 2022 and 2.1% in 2023. The agency has previously expected the figure to rise by 3.1% in 2022 and 2.9% in 2023.

The agency has lowered US economic growth forecasts:

  • from 2.8% down to 1.9% in 2022,
  • from 2.9% down to 1.1% in 2023.

Moody’s forecasts euro area GDP growth:

  • at the end of 2022 - by 2.5%,
  • in 2023 — by 0.3%.

Forecasts for China’s economic growth have also been cut:

  • from 4.5% down to 3.5% in 2022,
  • from 5.3% down to 4.8% in 2023.

The forecast for the drop in Russia’s GDP has been preserved, the agency believes that:

  • in 2022, Russia’s GDP will drop by 7%,
  • in 2023 — by 3%.

At the end of 2022, the inflation in the Russian Federation may reach 14.1%, and in 2023 the consumer price inflation rate in the country may slow down to 6.9%.

The inflation in the United States by the end of 2022 may reach 7%, and in China - 3%. The inflation in the United States by the end of 2023 may reach 2.3%, and in China - 2.5%.
