After almost 4 year years of bans Moldovan wines will be imported to Russia again.
The Russian Federation started lifting its bans on wine imported from Moldova. It’s the first time since 2013 products of Moldovan wine makers have been allowed to the Russian market. So far, the supply of only 20 kinds of wines of SA Cricova has been authorized by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being (Rospotrebnadzor) after certain verifications.
Earlier the Federal Service reported that it would be possible for most Moldovan wine-makers to resume their supplies. It also stated that 5 Moldovan wine producers would present samples allowing them to receive permits for import of their products to Russia.
Such decision concerning the import of wine to Russia was taken during the meeting with Igor Dodon, Moldovan president, which took place in Moscow (interestingly, Igor Dodon was the only foreign president to be present at the parade dedicated to Victory Day run at Red Square).
“As promised, we are bringing our bilateral relations back to their strategic level, which is happening in all sectors from humanities to economy. And the further, the more…”, stated Igor Dodon.
REFERENCE.
Up to 2006 Moldovan wines had accounted for 60% of the whole Russian market. Following the embargoes imposed by the Federal Service Rospotrebnadzor on wine import in 2006-2007, Moldova had returned only 5% of its share in the Russian market by 2013. However, imports were banned again on September 11, 2013. According to Rospotrebnadzor, the reason was non-compliance of a number of alcoholic consignments with safety requirements resulting from excessive dibutyl phthalate and di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate content. The restrictions had been posed right before Moldova installed an association agreement with the EU in November 2013.
