In the first three months of the year 2016, road transportation market for imports from the European Union to the Russian Federation continued to decline on a year-over-year basis. However, this dynamics slowed noticeably with -10% in Q1 in 2016 against the same period in 2015 and -36.3% in Q1 in 2015 against the same period in 2014. February and March of the year 2016 improved the yearly dynamics considerably.
In the first three months of the year 2015, Russian road freight transportation market was characterized by a decrease in freight traffic from all the countries of the European Union. Q1 of the current year showed positive dynamics in imports to the Russian Federation from certain countries against the same period of the year 2015.
ТInsignificantly in terms of weight, road transportation for imports from the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Bulgaria and Croatia increased.
The largest decrease in road transportation (expressed in physical terms) to the Russian Federation was observed from Poland (-62 thousand tons), Finland (-57 thousand tons), Lithuania (-38 thousand tons) and Germany (-28 thousand tons).

The major goods imported from the EU to the Russian Federation were as before and included plastic and plasticware; equipment facilities; paper and cardboard (with the marked negative dynamics of imports for the first two positions). Accordingly, 219 thousand tons, 195 thousand tons and 184 thousand tons of these goods were transported by road in the first quarter of the year 2016, totaling one third of the whole volume of imports (expressed in physical terms) transported by road to the Russian Federation.
The dynamics of import of electrical equipment to Russia improved noticeably in the first quarter of the current year with +36.4% (up to 94 thousand tons) against the same period of the previous year. Import of road vehicles decreased significantly with -18.2% (up to 77 thousand tons).

What concerns export, the first quarter of the year 2016 showed positive dynamics with +5.7% against the same period of the previous year, which was due to sharp increase in export in March.
In physical terms, the increase of road transportation from Russia to Finland was the largest. However, the best positive dynamics of export was observed to France (with the increase by 3.4 times). Road transportation of exports also grew to Lithuania, Belgium, Latvia and Romania.
Export to the Netherlands decreased rapidly by 4.5 times. Besides, the volume of freight traffic to the Czech Republic and Great Britain also fell.
